Section 7: ALTERNATIVE SCENARIOS

Scenario # 1: By 2005, wearables will be a natural part of society and have a worldwide impact. Businesses and industry will be reliant on them to function smoothly and effectively. Employees will be able to attain data whenever without even looking for it and also have constant access to a computer programme. The opportunity to do several things at the same time will provide people with more leisure time. However, wearables will also become part of grass root society. Personal computers will be incorporated into wearable form, however, they will be several times more efficient. People will send and recieve e-mails, retrieve data if they are lost and need directions from bar codes situated on land marks, and surf the web while they catch the bus. The wearable will become an essential tool in modern day society and their are no limits to how it can be used.

Scenario # 2:
Wearables will be released on to the market but will be a complete flop. In business people will be so reliant on their wearable that person to person communication will be distorted affecting the natural flow of business. In industry viruses will gnarl data transmitted on the wearable resulting in serious faults. People forced to use wearables for long periods of time will have damaging effects on their eye sight, batteries will leak causing irreversible wounds and having constant contact with the waves from the wearable will increase chances of cancerous tumor developments. Life threatening accidents will occur as a result of people being to absorbed with their wearables to notice danger (i.e.) people driving and receiving e-mail at the same time on their wearable will cause several road accidents.

Scenario # 3: Wearables will never be adopted. At the office people will want to be able to get away from their computers and wearables will not be seen as a requirement for the office. After all lap tops are becoming increasingly compact and portable their will be no need for a wearable in either business or industry. Furthermore, wearables will be viewed as unnecessary extra weight and bulk. In society people will never come around to the idea of wearing a computer, especially since clothes and appearance are so important today. Instead the mobil phone will increase its capabilities and have personal computer functions, therefore, leaving no need for wearables.
